TEACCH

TEACCH stands for Treatment and Education of Autistic and Communications Handicapped Children and focuses on promoting independence in tasks and increasing communication for students. TEACCH is:

  • Developing an individualised person and family centred plan for each students

  • Structuring the physical environment

  • Using visual supports to make the sequence of daily activities predictable and understandable (schedules)

  • Using visual supports to make individual tasks understandable (work systems)

    At William Rose School it has helped our students understand expectations and reduce anxiety. It has also suited their individual leanring styles, achieve independence, teach appropriate behaviours then generalised through visual systems and promotes flexible thinking
