Therapy

Therapy is defined as ‘treatment intended to relieve or heal a disorder.' (Oxford Dictionary).

While William Rose School is focused on excellence in education, therapy procedures are also embedded into our teaching and learning programs to help develop the whole student.

We work collaboratively with a range of therapists including occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech pathologists to ensure our students are achieving to the best of their ability. For further information, please see Agencies & Networks.

Mobility Opportunities Via Education (MOVE) is a program used at our school to develop movement and mobility skills. This program uses daily activities and experiences as opportunities for students to practise and develop their skills. For example, morning circle is a perfect opportunity for students with physical disabilities to practise sitting, standing and walking to use the interactive whiteboard and greet their peers.

Niagara therapy equipment is also used by students during classroom activities for a range of purposes including relaxation and therapy. The equipment helps to promote blood circulation, relieves tense muscles and can help students to relax and stretch their muscles.

Music therapy is an integral part of our school learning environment. Music Therapist, Peter Georgopoulos, has built on our students' love of music, creativity and expression of one's self. During music therapy, students socialise with other class groups, learn to manage behaviours and make choices thus gaining skills aimed at independence.
