On the 10th of August, BASEN was held at William Rose School. There were 17 educators from various schools in the local area who gathered and networked to share ideas.

 

Presenters included:

Kirsty Howard - presenting on Independent Deskwork Routine, based on TEACCH principles. This is predominately used to assist children with autism. Some advantages includes:

•Improved output  levels

•Increased engagement in tasks

•Independently moving on from activities

•Anyone can come into my room and follow the sequence providing consistency

 

Elisa Marquez - presenting on Looking Good Feeling Great program which aims to provide our students in Group 9 the experience of relaxation, being pampered, massaged and just being beautiful inside and out.

Students are able to choose from hair, massage, facial, foot spa, nail polish and simple make up. The program runs in the afternoon for an hour and twice a week. Looking Good Feeling Great teaches functional numeracy with money skills, time, communication skills, turn taking, social skills and self regulation. This program is one way of empowering the students through their personal choices and boosts their self esteem and confidence. 

 

 

Gurpreet Randhawa - presenting on the impact that the staff from Assessments and Behaviours Intervention (ABi) and the new and innovative strategies that were implemented. The strategies were extremely successful in various classrooms across the school.

 

Robyn Dundas and Jo Milburn - who presented on their roles and responsibilities in the area of Nirimba.
